So you finally took the plunge and got yourself a Showit website template (yay you 👏). Now comes the fun part — making it your own.
If you’ve been staring at your blank Showit dashboard thinking, “Okay… but where do I even start?” — don’t worry, I’ve got you.
I’ve been designing and launching Showit sites for years, and I promise it’s way easier than it looks. You don’t need a design degree or tech background — just a little direction and a few pro tips.
This post walks you through how to customize your Showit template, step by step — the same process I teach inside my courses and use when I’m creating my own demo sites for Superhero Design.
Grab your coffee, open your Showit account, and let’s do this together.
Step 1: Install Your Template

Once you’ve purchased your Showit template, you’ll get a Share Key — kind of like a digital “import code.”
Here’s what to do:
- Log into your Showit account.
- Click the “Your Designs” tab.
- Select Add Design → Add Design Key.
- Paste the Share Key and click “Add Now.”
Just like that, your entire website design will load right into your dashboard — every page, gallery, and section, ready to edit.
💡 Pro Tip: Keep your demo version open in another tab so you can see how everything’s supposed to look as you customize.
Step 2: Swap Out Your Branding

This is where your site starts to feel you.
Replace the demo colors, fonts, and logos with your own branding elements.
Inside Showit:
- Click on any text box to change the font or color.
- Update your brand colors under the Design Settings → Site Styles tab.
- Drop in your own logo file (PNG format works best).
Don’t overthink this part — you can always tweak later. The goal right now is to make it feel cohesive with your brand vibe.
💡 If you don’t have a brand palette yet, grab one of my matching Canva kits — each one comes with pre-set colors and fonts that pair perfectly with your website.
Step 3: Update Your Images

Showit makes replacing images incredibly easy.
- Click the photo you want to change.
- In the right sidebar, click Replace Image.
- Upload your own photo from your computer or media library.
If you’re a photographer, start with your hero gallery or homepage slideshow — those big visuals are what clients notice first.
If you’re a coach or service provider, use brand photos that show your face, workspace, or lifestyle (you, laptop, coffee — classic but it works).
💡 Pro Tip: Avoid stock photos that look too generic. Choose images that reflect your personality and your ideal client’s world.
Step 4: Edit Your Copy

Your words matter more than you think.
Each section in your template is already structured for conversions — you just need to swap in your details.
Here’s how to make it easy:
- Start with your homepage — update the headline, subhead, and call-to-action.
- Move to your about page — tell your story like you’re chatting with a friend, not writing a resume.
- Update your services page — make it clear what you offer and who it’s for.
- End with your contact page — keep it simple and welcoming.
💡 Pro Tip: Write your copy in a Google Doc first, then paste it in once you’re happy with the tone.
And if you get stuck, peek at the example text in your Superhero Design template — it’s intentionally written to guide you toward what to say.
Step 5: Link Your Buttons & Navigation
Nothing kills a good first impression faster than broken links.
Once your content is in place, click on each button and check where it leads.
- “Book Now” → your contact or scheduling page
- “Learn More” → your services page
- “View Portfolio” → your galleries
For navigation, double-check that every menu item links to the right page.
You can update those in Site Settings → Navigation.
💡 Pro Tip: Make sure your mobile navigation is updated too — Showit lets you customize desktop and mobile separately.
Step 6: Check Your Mobile Design

This is one of the reasons I love Showit — it lets you design your mobile site separately from desktop.
Click the phone icon at the bottom of your screen to switch to the mobile view.
You can move, resize, or even hide elements that don’t fit as well on smaller screens.
Spend a few minutes making sure:
- Text isn’t cut off or overlapping.
- Buttons are big enough to tap easily.
- Images still look balanced.
💡 Pro Tip: Check your mobile layout before you publish — most of your visitors are probably on their phones.
Step 7: Preview and Publish
Once everything looks the way you want, hit Preview to make sure your links, galleries, and animations all work correctly.
Then click Publish, grab a glass of something bubbly, and celebrate — you just launched your new website 🎉
If you want to connect your domain, Showit’s support team will walk you through it (they’re amazing).
Step 8: Keep It Fresh
Your website isn’t a one-and-done project.
Plan to update your portfolio, swap out images, and refresh your copy every few months.
Think of it like your digital storefront — keeping it current shows clients that your brand is active and intentional.
💡 Pro Tip: Add new blog posts regularly. Even one post per month helps your SEO and keeps your site ranking higher over time.
Final Thoughts
Customizing your Showit template doesn’t have to be scary or complicated. Once you dive in, you’ll see how intuitive and flexible it is.
The goal isn’t perfection — it’s progress. Launch now, refine later.
