If you’ve been dreaming about becoming a web designer but keep waiting for the perfect time to start—this is your sign.
You don’t need years of experience, fancy tech skills, or a degree to build a real design business. What you do need is a clear plan, a few key tools, and a little bit of focus for two weeks.
That’s it. Two weeks.
This is the exact process I used to go from “where do I even start?” to running a six-figure design business using Showit (the most beginner-friendly web design platform out there).
And yes, it’s completely doable for you too.
Get clear on your niche and who you actually want to design for
Before you open your laptop and start designing, spend a little time thinking about who you want to work with.
Do you love helping life coaches create websites that feel high-end and personal? Or maybe you’re drawn to photographers, wellness brands, or creatives.
When you know who you want to design for, you’ll make better creative decisions, write better copy, and build a portfolio that naturally attracts those kinds of clients.
If you skip this step, you’ll end up creating random designs that don’t really connect with anyone. Trust me, I learned that the hard way.
Build your website and portfolio (even if you don’t have clients yet)
You don’t need to wait until you’ve booked someone to create your portfolio. Start now.
Pick a template—like one of mine from Superhero Design—and customize it to show off your dream style. Then, build a few mock projects for the types of clients you want to work with.
For example, if you want to work with photographers, create a sample photography website using stock images and thoughtful copy. Explain the design decisions you made—colors, layout, call-to-action—so it looks intentional and strategic.
Having even two or three mock projects makes you look professional, experienced, and ready for paid work.
Start putting yourself out there
Once you’ve got a few solid designs under your belt, it’s time to start sharing your work.
You don’t need a huge following or a fancy marketing plan—just consistency.
Post your designs on Instagram, share before-and-after mockups, talk about what you’re learning, and use hashtags that your ideal clients would actually search (like #lifecoachwebsite or #photographerbranding).
Let people know you’re offering web design services and that you’re currently taking on clients.
Even one or two projects can change everything—it’s the proof that gets your business rolling.
Learn how to attract and book clients
Getting your first client isn’t luck—it’s strategy. You need to know how to position yourself, talk about your services, and show the value you bring.
Inside my free training, I share the exact 3-step plan I used to land clients fast (even when I had zero experience).
👉 Start Your Web Design Business with Zero Experience
You’ll learn how to build confidence as a beginner, what to include in your starter portfolio, and how to turn your skills into real income.
Plus, you’ll get my free Web Design Starter Kit—a resource packed with tools and templates to help you launch faster.
Your next two weeks could change everything
You could spend the next few months endlessly scrolling, comparing, and second-guessing yourself.
Or—you could spend the next two weeks actually building something that changes your life.
When you follow a clear plan, things move quickly. You start seeing progress, you start feeling capable, and suddenly this dream of being a web designer doesn’t feel so far away.
